As a dedicated lover of my flutes, I take them with me everywhere I go, I carry them in the colorful, quilted flute bags I make and people often ask me about the bags. This naturally leads me into showing them the flutes, another wonderful way to introduce people to the beauty of the flutes.
The other day while waiting for my car to be serviced at a local dealership in Nanaimo, a 90 year old gentleman asked me what I was carrying in my colorful bags. Of course I was thrilled to show him and ended up playing for him. Soon a few people were poking their heads out from around the corners wondering where the sound was coming from. I stopped then but was urged to continiue playing. One of the staff even commented that 'she could just feel her blood pressure dropping from hearing the lovely, peaceful sound' Comments like that always thrill me and inspire me.
While I used to be quite shy about playing in public places, I have come to realize that the flutes are a gift from the creator and the gift was meant to be shared with people. I am delighted when my flute playing offers a few peaceful moments to people during their busy lives. (and at the same time I receive much joy from sharing)
I hope more of you flute players are sharing your gift of music with the people around you.
